Yes, enable monitoring for WHS clients but exclude the server on the computers page (right click on server, then remove the check on monitoring). 

This applies to network devices running 24/7 also. 

My server doesn't suspend or hibernates since I enabled network load monitoring 

You have to increase the network load value in KB/s. An idle server is still sending data packets on the network. You may have to tweak your values, as they might be too low or too high too.
